In celebration of both EBSCO Industries' and the International Sign Association's 75th anniversary this year, we've collected quotes from top sign experts, EBSCO customers, and ISA Expo exhibitors and attendees about the excitement of the expo, the future of digital signage, and more.

The Future of Digital Sign Technology

EBSCO Signs & Displays has been a leader in indoor and outdoor signage since 1956. We've seen the industry grow exponentially, and it shows no sign of slowing down. These ISA Expo attendees and signage gurus let us know how they see the future of digital sign technology:

"There's a lot of new technologies. It's across the board. [The ISA Expo] is a show that they use to debut new equipment, new products. It's very exciting to see."

-- Paul Zimmerman, What They Think Media

"The most exciting thing is all the innovation that's coming out of China right now. The things that are now offered that we didn't have ability to have 10 years ago is incredible. Indoor is where everything is going towards and being able to offer new exciting products on indoor is something we're going to be focused on for many years to come."

-- Josh Brasher, President, EBSCO Signs & Displays

"The industry's always growing and changing. I'm very excited to see all the new technology that's coming out.”

-- Shamus Naughton, MMP Capital

We're obviously excited about the future. There's so much that is currently happening and then so much in development with regard to, in particular, indoor digital signage. Our company has a long history outdoor and indoor, but there are so many new applications that are coming out, that are being developed and that are coming to market indoor that, it's just endless opportunity."

-- Tom Coughlin, Daktronics

"[For] a lot of schools, the virtual scoreboards seem to be becoming more and more popular. I would say that one outside it gives [...] information, but the scoreboards in the stadiums, even in the local high schools and middle schools are starting to grow."

-- Cord Guthman, Guthman Signs

"[I'm] really excited about all the new technology on display. Users and clients are still just figuring out what it is they're going to be using a lot of this stuff for. A lot of endgame uses they're just figuring out themselves. Particularly, the specificity of what's available has really increased over the last couple of years."

-- Jared Newmeijer, SENFENG Laser Cutters

"Today we're kind of launching our indoor product and showcasing our high resolution outside LED products. So, it's exciting to be among the group for another year."

-- Carlos Olivardia, EBSCO

"I am super-excited about all the new technology and products being offered that hopefully will help satisfy my customers' requests."

-- Tisha Castillo, MyBizNow

"It's nice to see when new technology is coming out to the market. Keeps you on your toes."

-- Daniel Vasquez, Brand Management Group

"We've been coming to the sign show for at least a decade or more. Over the years we've seen the technology in the sign industry change with [...] the bringing in of LEDs and that technology in the industry. Every year it gets better and better."

-- Chandler Bart, Sedan Machinery

"I think [churches are] broadening their outlook on what a sign can do. In the old days, it was service [at] this time, but now they're seeing all the different options and how much that can really affect their attendance. Attendance is down overall in churches everywhere. So, they're all looking to expand that, and digital signs are the way to do it."

-- Cord Guthman, Guthman Signs

"Like any product, whether it's indoor or outdoor, quality is key, right? Quality and reliability. [...] We find that very important. [Also] being conscious of cost and making sure that prices are such that these products are affordable across a broad spectrum of applications is hugely important. Obviously, engineering, cost engineering to make sure that the investment people make is appropriate and sets them up for a wonderful return for whatever advertising application it might be."

-- Tom Coughlin, Daktronics

The Excitement of the International Sign Association Expo

The ISA Sign Expo is the sign industry's biggest event, drawing over 20,000 people and over 600 vendors every year. This year, the expo was more exciting than ever! We asked ISA attendees what they were most looking forward to this year:

"[ISA has] new products, new customers [and] new techniques. Brand-new, cutting-edge technology."

-- Jim Sanslick, Graphic Solutions Group

"I've been coming to ISA for about five or six years now. It's just been interesting to see the evolution of sign technologies. [...] It's always been exciting to see new technologies being used to create graphic displays."

-- Richard Romano, What They Think Media

"What we're really excited about is at the ISA, we host our once a year Signarama convention. We have over 200 franchisees from all over the world actually come in, we have breakout sessions in marketing, breakout sessions for advertising and just how to help grow their business, and then they also get the ability to walk around and talk to the vendors, and get to meet with their vendors face to face. We're super excited about that."

-- Charles, Signarama

"What's inspiring for me about this event is the continued progression of technology. [...] We expect to see that continuing."

-- David Lindsey, Electronics for Imaging

"This is my first time at the show, and it is absolutely amazing. Just everywhere you look, it's mind-blowing. I'm looking for new signage opportunities that I can bring back to my stores. Things that we haven't seen in a traditional retail environment and innovations that we can bring back, incorporate them into our store designs."

-- Meredith Bright, Print Signs

"[The ISA Expo] is a great networking opportunity to meet everyone in the industry that I talk to on a daily basis. Also, [I'm] part of the ISA Elite for 2019, so, [I'm] meeting the ISA Board of Directors."

-- Ellen Dyar, Yorston & Associates

"The ISA [Expo] is great for us. It's our fifth or sixth year we've been with ISA. We love it."

-- Jason Friesen, Laguna Tools

"One of my favorite things about coming to the ISA [Expo] is seeing all the happy, excited faces from sign professionals when they get a demo of our product."

-- Vanessa Bagnato, ikeGPS

"[I've] been attending the ISA [Expo] for the last five years. It's a great opportunity to meet clients from around the world. It's a good meeting point [and] everyone gets to give a brief explanation as to what they're looking for. Industry leaders attend the event as well."

-- Daniel Vasquez, Brand Management Group

"I'm impressed with the show so far on the first day. There's a lot of traffic spread throughout the show. There is seems to be a lot of excitement here. It's a good size show. The exhibitors seem to be very excited and more importantly, there's people in the aisles that are stopping in booths and talking to people."

-- Paul Zimmerman, What They Think Media

"We're here at the show, again, for the ISA [Expo]. We enjoy the opportunity to network, meet other people in the industry, see what everybody else is doing."

-- Carlos Olivardia, EBSCO

"We're moving into the sign business. It's just good to be at the show and know what's new and what we can [do]."

-- Carlo Salison, 707 Embroidery Zone

"I love to be here networking with a bunch of individuals. [...] There's a tremendous amount of businesses here [at the ISA Expo], all looking to network and grow their businesses, and we're happy to help where we can."

-- Shamus Naughton, MMP Capital

"What I like is not necessarily seeing this stuff on the floor here, but when you go to these facilities and you see it actually being used, that's where you really understand and appreciate what they can do with it."

-- Mike Duffield, AkzoNobel

"What I find most interesting about the ISA [Expo] this year is there's a good vibe going, because people are excited. The show just has a lot more vibrancy than it's had in the past years."

"All of the exhibitors are saying that this year's been a really positive experience. So, we're just looking forward to hearing lots of great things from all of the exhibitors this year.”

-- Allie, Signs.org

"This is our 11th year actually exhibiting in the show."

-- Mark, Radiant Manufacturing

"We're very excited to just meet new faces and I guess kind of explore different ways to use our products in the various industries for signage [at the ISA Expo]."

-- Renita, FAS

"[The ISA Expo] is a brand-new space for us, so we're excited to meet the customers out there."

-- Mario Fontes, Beader Solutions

"Typically, in shows like this, there's always a theme to the show. One year it's a floor show where everyone's got new floor film, the other themes might be new wallpapers, or it could be a new acrylic or something like that. [This year] it could be new LEDs."

-- Brenda Thomas, Piedmont Plastics

ISA Sign Expo Exhibitors & Attendees Promote New Products for the Signage Industry

The ISA Sign Expo is the place to debut new technology and products for the sign industry. These attendees and exhibitors discuss their products and what they brought to the expo.

"The [HP Stitch was] just announced a couple of days ago, actually a day ago, and textile printers for the sportswear, fashion, household, and soft signage markets. [It's] a game changer. [It has the] fastest color match. It's got replaceable print heads so it's much faster than anybody else's."

-- Tom Whittenberg, Hewlett Packard

"One of the cool things we're showing this year is the new Arizona 1300 Series UV-curable flatbed printer that has a new curing system, new inks and a new print mode that does 548 square feet an hour."

-- Randy Parr, Canon Solutions America

"We've had a lot of people responding with the [virtual reality] experience that we're doing. So, that's been a great experience for everybody. It's a VR experience, and so people get to experience what doing sign work would be like if they were in it."

-- Allie, Signs.org

"[We try to] talk to our customers about their business. Where is their business going, what do they say the challenges, and we try to inspire what you can actually do with inkjet applications. So, we have a lot of different examples on the show floor with our application cubes. You're limited by your imagination when it comes to UV and jet printing. And you know, try to give ideas to customers of how they can grow their business, new and unique applications that they can use internally to expand. So that's really what we like to try to engage with our customers as they come to the show floor."

-- Deborah Hutchinson, AGFA Graphics

"We're most excited about the growth of dye sublimation. I don't know what the trade industry says but [it's] been looking like 15%-20% growth every year for us."

-- Chris Johnson, Strategic Edge Imports

"This is our second ISA Trade Expo and really excited about launching our new brand of specialty tapes and getting it out to the sign industry. We've just launched our adhesive transfer product to our product line for vehicle wraps, window signage, and we've also released some new banner tapes and double-sided filament banner tapes, some reinforcement to it for adding strength and integrity to banner applications."

-- Chad, Incrediseal Tapes

"We do everything, every kind of wrap. Sign, sport, [and] we do the financing too. Everything you need."

-- Norma Alvarez, Wrap Nation

"We see today's customers that are really looking for hybrid devices that can meet their challenges as they move into new technology. So, the Anapurna RTR3200i, which is a 10-foot with a dual roll option, is a very robust build. It's all LED with six-color and white, and really meets the needs for customers that want to run single or double ships and are starting really to expand in new business opportunities."

-- Deborah Hutchinson, AFGA Graphics

"We're excited because we're moving into a new space with our equipment, [we've] been in business for many, many years. [...] We're new and they haven't seen this solution before, so I think that's what's getting them interested. They don't know how to store their products other than the old way. This is a new way."

-- Mario Fontes, Beader Solutions

"We manufacture sequin tiles that are used in outdoor and indoor displays. We can print any graphic to those tiles as well. It just provides movement to the graphic, [and] attracts people's attention. [...] We can do holographic imaging over the image. It just adds another dimension to the graphic. And everybody kind of wants to come in and touch it, and feel it, and see what it's doing because it's different."

-- Mark, Radiant Manufacturing

"[We] cut and engrave different materials, plastic, acrylics, different metals, stainless steel, brass, [and] aluminum, [which] just provides a lot more durability than say laminates."

-- Jared Newmeijer, SENFENG Laser Cutters

"We are a promotional product company and we've been doing a variety of screen printing and selling promotional items and it's tied into the [sign industry]."

-- Carlo Salison, 707 Embroidery Zone

"We do tape, specifically in the framing, award, sign, and trophy industry. [...] We're just more so concentrating on the various applications. So, in prior years, we were focusing on banner hemming, different ways to use our tape for banners, but we're kind of looking into fasteners and liquid adhesives, different ways to combine our products with new technology."

-- Renita, FAS

"We sell saws to cut in aluminum extrusion. So, we sell to a lot of display and sign companies. We do miter cutting, we have saws that'll do bevel cutting. [...] Which is kind of a need we saw when we were here last year."

-- Patrick Thornton, Pat Mooney Saws

"I know one company said they were debuting five new printers. Other companies are debuting new technology in terms of art equipment, in terms of software and substrates."

-- Paul Zimmerman, What They Think Media

"We're going twice as fast as what we used to do with our firing technology in terms of a digital front-end processing. The growth both in UV LED printing and in soft science printing [is incredible]. Soft science, in particular, has been a great transformation in this industry."

-- David Lindsey, Electronics for Imaging

"We are an aluminum extrusion manufacturer based in Los Angeles, California. Exhibiting here at the sign show again, and I'm inspired by the unique opportunities for custom extrusions in this industry, and we sell extrusions to anybody who wants to buy. No minimums, very custom, and American made."

-- Mike Thrush, Paramount Extrusions Company

"The big thing that we are seeing on the show today is the interest in self-contained, solar power lighting, or any kind of solar power lighting. It has been the number one request that we've had, and next time when we come, we're going to be bringing probably three times as many samples as we have now."

-- Jacob Head, Genesis Lighting Solutions

"I think the thing that excites me the most for Roland DGA here at ISA would be the fact that we won the Innovation Award for the top printer. And coming with that, and winning that award, we also got our name and our booth number and everything on the front cover of their show program."

-- Nicole Delcato, Roland DGA

"Acrylic urethane [paint] has been around for a long time, but the thing that makes our paint different is the resin that we use. So, there's no other company that has our resin. Obviously, we don't have their resin, either, but it's the longevity of the paint. It's just a better paint system, that's all."

-- Mike Duffield, AkzoNobel

"Our company develops ink, [and] we're the largest re-manufacturer of laser toner and inkjet cartridges."

-- Shilo Layton, Clover Imaging Group

"We got our HP flatbed printers, which is what we sell. We sell some Roland printers as well. We've got a new product from Matthew's Paint, [a]color management system. [...] Brand-new cutting-edge technology. Good for customers that paint."

-- Jim Sanslick, Graphic Solutions Group

"We are a sheetrock and tube company. We have foam PVC's, we have an entire, full portfolio on graphics products as well [for] the sign and the graphics industry."

-- Brenda Thomas, Piedmont Plastics

"We make CNC routers and CO2 lasers. And so, we decided to be here this year, with bringing machines and showing them to everybody here. [...] We have some new lasers, got some different machines, new CNC routers that we're offering, different features, things like that. So, it's just upgrades on stuff we already offer."

-- Jason Friesen, Laguna Tools

"We are a Chinese factory, and we produce tube displays, [and] we can add lights in the tube."

-- Carrie, Expomax (China)

"We manufacture sheet metal cutting and forming machines. [...] With the economy doing well we're selling more and more machines in the sign industry which we love. The sign industry is closely tied to construction so if construction's doing good then I think a lot of the economy is doing well."

-- Chandler Bart, Sedan Machinery

"We're just here making high-quality bulletproof products for the lighting, neon and LED industry."

-- Adam Finch, France Lighting Solutions

"[There's] an increase in the demand for flatbeds, for UV flatbeds, and a lot of customers today are looking for ways to expand their business, so they're moving into that specialty printing applications, where they want to print on substrates that are on objects, that are not necessarily flat, and they need that flatbed capability, or they're doing two-sided work, so they need the flatbed in order to do that. So, there's a resurgence of that, that we're seeing here on the show floor."

-- Deborah Hutchinson, AGFA Graphics

"[We offer specialty lighting solutions that are] flexible and you can put outside the buildings. And you can decorate everything with this. It's for outside and has a UV protector and is a new product that we are showing."

-- Ileana, Allanson International

"The new product is PVC free products. So, it minimizes the plastic materials, so [it's] eco-friendly and green."

-- Anonymous, Starflex
